Our History

ASA Insurance is proud of our 70+ year track record of finding our clients the best insurance rates in Utah with the coverage they need. At the same time, our track record shows our commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and belonging. Take a look at some of the prominent events in our company history to learn more about what makes us who we are.

1950

Alvin S. Anderson (ASA) Insurance has a long and illustrious history in the Utah insurance market that dates back to 1950. Shortly after returning from his LDS mission to Finland, Al decided on insurance as a career. After working for New York Life, New England Life, and many other insurance companies, Al decided it was time to venture out on his own…and it didn’t take long for ASA Insurance to make its mark on the Utah insurance industry.

1959

In September of 1959, West Coast Life Insurance Co. named Al to the firm’s Select Leaders Club. Over the years, Al would go on to receive a number of other awards and accolades, including in 1962 when he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Jaycees as Salt Lake City’s Outstanding Young Man.

1966

In May of 1966, Al leased the upper floor of a beautiful building at 123 East on 3900 South Street that was dubbed “The Little Home Office.” It was there that Al hired three women as district managers which was just one step toward promoting diversity that ASA Insurance took before it was popular to do so.

1970

In November of 1970, the Salt Lake Tribune ran a Business Portrait of Alvin S. Anderson in which he lists diversity as the key to success. In fact, ASA Insurance was one of the first insurance agencies in Utah to embrace diversity, as their decades-long practices of diverse hiring show.

1971

In April of 1971, Al became the State Manager for Provident Mutual Life which also meant a move to their existing office at 2035 South 1300 East in Sugarhouse, Utah. However, it didn’t take long to outgrow that office, which meant it was time for a move to 139 East 3900 South in Salt Lake City.

1975

The Agency was growing and we were receiving accolades such as “Outstanding New Agency of the Company” and others. Despite this, Al was fired from the Provident Mutual Life company in the spring of 1975 which would ultimately prove to be an incredibly big blessing in disguise!

In fact, the reason for the firing was “being too involved with church and family.” But this commitment to faith and family ended with Al being called to be the Bishop of the Holladay 20th Ward which wouldn’t have been possible if he still worked for Provident Life.

At the same time, this blessing in disguise also resulted in ASA Insurance as you know it today.

1986

April 22, 1986, was a Red Letter day for ASA Insurance. It was then that they incorporated as ASA INC DBA; ASA INSURANCE AND ASA REALTY, with Al as the president and two of his sons (Clay and Tyler) as vice presidents, and Al’s wife Donna as secretary and treasurer.

1989

Al gave his youngest son Creed his third of interest in the corporation, and Creed, Clay, and Tyler would carry on the ASA Insurance legacy with the experience and values they have learned (and continue to learn) from their father.

2013

This was another exciting year for ASA Insurance when we launched our new blog and website to make it easier than ever for clients to find what they’re looking for and to provide the public with the important information they need to make informed decisions about their insurance policies. By sharing the experience we’ve accumulated in our decades of service to the Salt Lake City and other Utah communities, we would set forth to equip you with the knowledge you need to make those important, challenging life decisions.

2021 and Beyond

A lot has changed about the insurance industry, but the most important things have stayed the same. To us, that means placing customer service above all else and ensuring our clients receive the very best care and attention every step of the way.
